Phi Delta Theta · James Madison University
Virginia Mu
Forty-eight men who built a chapter from the ground up in Harrisonburg. Installed April 18, 2026.
Who we are
Three cardinal principles
Every Phi Delt chapter since 1848 has signed the same Bond. At Virginia Mu we treat it as a job description: how we treat each other, how we perform in class, and how we carry ourselves on campus.
Friendship
Brotherhood that shows up. Retreats, game days, and the brother who checks in when you go quiet.
Sound Learning
We came to JMU to graduate and get hired. Brothers hold each other to the books.
Rectitude
Doing the right thing when nobody is watching. Every event is risk-reviewed, every brother is trained.
“One man is no man.”Robert Morrison, founder of Phi Delta Theta
Our record
April 18, 2026
Virginia Mu started with a founding class that wanted a different kind of fraternity at JMU. They built it before the charter arrived: eight committees, a written operations manual, and a weekly rhythm that keeps the chapter running.
On April 18, 2026, Phi Delta Theta made it official.
- Grew from a founding class to 48 brothers
- Installed as the Virginia Mu chapter of Phi Delta Theta
- Hosted multiple Live Like Lou events, including car washes and ice bucket challenges
- Served alongside a local family facing ALS
- Volunteered at local churches, schools and food kitchens
Brotherhood
What Brotherhood Means To Us
Here at Phi Delta Theta, brotherhood means the guys who show up. They pick you up when a semester gets hard, push you to be better in the classroom, and turn a rainy tailgate or a weekend at the beach into memories you keep for life. All of us knew we wanted to become the best versions of ourselves, so naturally we ended up here. Now we have 48 brothers we would do anything for, and friendships that will last long after graduation.

We fight ALS
Lou Gehrig was a Phi Delt. Phi Delta Theta’s national philanthropy, the Live Like Lou Foundation, funds ALS research and supports families living with the disease.
For Virginia Mu it is personal. Our brothers have spent service days alongside a JMU baseball alum and his family as they faced ALS together. These are some of those days.
Philanthropy and Community Service are two of our eight committees, with chapter-wide goals for dollars raised and hours served every semester.
